Canada is turning a blind eye to environmental harm and rights so that it can build recklessly. The 243-page Bill C-39 proposes sweeping changes to how major projects are assessed, permitted, and regulated in Canada. It is widely considered to be the single biggest environmental deregulatory bill in generations. More than 5,400 people have already signed this action, but to make it impossible for the federal government to ignore us we need every single member of our community to have their say. Take action now.

The Carney government is enjoying an approval rating not seen at the federal level since 2016, despite what it is doing to our environmental laws. In 2024, the Superior Court of Québec found that the Québec government had failed for decades to meet its constitutional duty to consult and accommodate the Mitchikanibikok Inik First Nation over mining claims on its territory. Today and tomorrow, Ecojustice and the Québec Environmental Law Centre will be in court to defend the victory as the Québec government appeals the decision. For the Mitchikanibikok Inik, the stakes reach far beyond a claim on a map. Learn more.

Last week, an eight-week trial for La Rose v. His Majesty the King began at the Federal Court in Vancouver. La Rose is one of several landmark cases in which young Canadians are using the courts to hold those responsible for the climate crisis to account. Like the youth behind Ecojustice’s groundbreaking Mathur case – the La Rose plaintiffs are seeking what all youth deserve: a liveable future. From Charter rights to fiduciary duties, young people across Canada are turning to the Courts to confront the climate crisis. Here's the latest on four Canadian youth-led climate cases you should know about.
